7 best gym membership software for small gyms in 2026

The seven gym membership software platforms that small gyms shortlist in 2026, compared on auto-billing, renewals, reminders, invoicing and price: Tuckly, Gymdesk, PushPress, Zen Planner, TeamUp, GymMaster and Mindbody.

Small gyms do not need every feature in a gym management platform. They need the membership part to be flawless: plans sold in a minute, fees collected on the due date without a conversation, renewals reminded automatically, lapsed members stopped at the door and an invoice for every payment. We compared seven platforms on exactly that. For gyms in India, the UK, Australia, Canada, the UAE and Singapore, Tuckly comes out ahead because of local payment methods and tax invoicing; in the US, Tuckly, Gymdesk and PushPress are the three to trial.

What small gyms actually need from membership software

  • Auto-renewal in your payment methods. UPI Autopay in India, Direct Debit in the UK and Australia, ACH and cards in the US, PayNow in Singapore. If members have to remember to pay, some will not.
  • Reminders on the channel members read. WhatsApp in most markets; SMS and email in the US. With a payment link in the message.
  • Enforcement at the door. Expired or unpaid members blocked at check-in, with a pay link on the spot.
  • Invoices your accountant accepts. GST, VAT or sales-tax invoices with your registration number, for cash too.
  • Freezes, upgrades, transfers and refunds that take two clicks and update the next invoice.
  • Price under one membership a month and no long contract.

1. Tuckly

Best for: small gyms that want membership billing in local payment methods, WhatsApp reminders and tax invoices without extra staff.

Tuckly supports every plan type a small gym sells (monthly, quarterly, annual, class packs, PT packages, family, corporate, trial and day passes), charges recurring plans automatically through Razorpay, Stripe, GoCardless, Ezidebit, HitPay and other local gateways, sends reminders with payment links on WhatsApp, SMS and email, and blocks lapsed members at QR, biometric or door check-in. Every payment, including cash, produces a numbered GST, VAT or sales-tax invoice.

  • Starter plan at $49 a month (₹999 in India) covers up to 200 members
  • Freezes, pro-rated upgrades, transfers and refunds in two clicks
  • Member app for self-service renewals and invoice downloads
  • Free Excel import; free migration on Growth and Pro

Watch out for: no free plan (14-day trial), and class scheduling and WhatsApp Business API automation start on the Growth plan.

2. Gymdesk

Best for: North American small gyms and martial arts schools that want a simple, fast interface.

Gymdesk keeps membership management uncluttered: plans, recurring billing, attendance, a member portal and clear reports, month to month from $75. Support reviews are consistently good.

Watch out for: limited localisation for payments and tax outside North America, and fewer automation channels than WhatsApp-first markets need.

3. PushPress

Best for: brand-new US gyms that want to start on a free plan.

PushPress Free gives a new gym memberships, billing through its in-house processing, scheduling and a member app for no software fee. Paid bundles add workout tracking, marketing automation and more. Read our PushPress alternatives guide if you are weighing it against others.

Watch out for: US-centric payments and tax, no WhatsApp automation, and bundle pricing that climbs as you add features.

4. Zen Planner

Best for: martial arts schools and CrossFit affiliates in the US.

Zen Planner combines membership billing with belt and skill tracking and workout tracking, so a dojo or box gets programme-specific features alongside memberships, from about $99 a month.

Watch out for: the interface feels dated in places and payments are US-focused.

5. TeamUp

Best for: class-based studios in the UK and Europe.

TeamUp prices by active customers, with no long contract, and supports GoCardless Direct Debit for UK members alongside cards. Memberships, packs and class bookings are tightly integrated.

Watch out for: it is built around classes; a traditional gym with biometric check-in and no timetable will pay for scheduling it does not use.

6. GymMaster

Best for: small 24/7 gyms that want built-in door access with their membership software.

GymMaster pairs memberships and billing with its own access-control hardware, so a lapsed membership locks the door automatically. From about $99 a month.

Watch out for: add-ons for SMS and hardware raise the total, and the interface is functional rather than modern.

7. Mindbody

Best for: boutique studios that want new-client exposure through the Mindbody marketplace.

Mindbody is the category’s largest platform, with deep packages, scheduling and a consumer app that brings in walk-ins. Membership management is strong but it is sold on quote with annual contracts.

Watch out for: cost and contract length; it is rarely the right fit for a small independent gym watching every dollar.

How to pick: a three-step test

  1. Sign up for a trial and import 20 real members. If import needs a support ticket, that is your answer.
  2. Sell yourself a membership with a payment link, pay it by your members’ usual method, then look at the invoice. Is your tax number on it? Is the tax split right?
  3. Let the plan expire and try to check in. Were you blocked? Did you get a reminder with a pay link?

A platform that passes all three will collect more of the revenue you have already earned. Use the membership pricing calculator to set the prices and the churn calculator to see what each missed renewal costs, then read how to price gym memberships before you load your plans.

Frequently asked questions

What does gym membership software do?
It tracks every member’s plan, charges recurring memberships automatically, sends renewal reminders with payment links, blocks check-ins for lapsed members, handles freezes, upgrades and transfers, issues invoices and reports on active members, dues and churn.
What is the cheapest gym membership software?
PushPress has a free plan with limited features and its own payment processing. Among paid options, Tuckly Starter ($49 a month in the US, ₹999 in India) and Gymdesk ($75 a month) are the lowest published prices with full membership management.
