How this calculator works
- 1BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)².
- 2Imperial inputs are converted to metric before calculating.
- 3Categories follow WHO ranges: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 healthy, 25–29.9 overweight, 30+ obese.
Formula
BMI = Weight (kg) ÷ Height (m)²
Tips from gym owners
- BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat. Muscular members often read as "overweight" while lean.
- Pair BMI with body fat percentage and waist measurement for a fuller picture.
- Gyms using Tuckly track BMI and measurements in each member's profile automatically.

BMI calculator: FAQ
What is a healthy BMI?
For most adults a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered healthy. Some health bodies in Asia use lower cut-offs (23 for overweight) because health risks appear at lower BMIs in some populations.
Is BMI accurate for athletes?
No. BMI cannot tell muscle from fat, so muscular people often have a high BMI with low body fat. Use the body fat calculator alongside it.
